Lauren Groff is the author of six works of fiction, including the novels The Monsters of Tempelton (2008), Fates and Furies (2015), MATRIX (2021), and, forthcoming, The Vaster Wilds (2023). At the Academy, she’s working on “Doom-Eager,” a novel that circles around themes of the Anthropocene, insomnia, complicity with systems of power, and the way language can conform to or resist those systems. She describes the novel as one of dislocation, one that looks at what happens when insomnia is so severe it changes one’s perception of the world.
