At a time when faith in objective truth is at an all-time low, what can historical fiction—the art of verisimilitude, or plausible lying—teach us about the intricacies of the past and the vagaries of the present? Lauren Groff will read from and discuss her most recent two novels, both historical fiction: Matrix, published in 2021, and The Vaster Wilds, which will be released in fall 2023.
