Sir David Chipperfield presents the work of Fundación RIA, a nonprofit organization he established in Galicia, northwest Spain. Like many rural areas across the globe, Galicia is struggling to determine a sustainable future that both defends its natural and cultural environment while harnessing its full economic potential. What started as a research project in 2016 to help the local community address the poor quality of development and issues related to planning and infrastructure has evolved into a foundation advocating for a more collaborative planning system, bringing all sectors to the table alongside local and international experts. Through a series of pilot projects, the foundation seeks to encourage a new approach to the governance and perception of rural and semi-rural areas.
