Javiera Barandiarán is Associate Professor of Global Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. In her Academy project, a transnational history of the three oldest lithium brine mines in Chile, Argentina, and the United States, she focuses on how stakeholders used economic and geologic expertise to promote lithium development.
