Emily Apter is Julius Silver Professor of French and Comparative Literature at New York University. Her Academy project is both a political theory of translation and an investigation into what a “just” translation is. She seeks to define “translational injustice” under conditions of violence and legal argument, using cases with contemporary political resonance: gender violence and sexual nomination across languages.
