Christian Ulrich Diehl is the Academy’s chief operating officer.
Diehl’s professional managerial background has been multi-focal: operational, on finance, controlling, taxation and legal matters, and IT; and supervisory, on establishing and running governance functions, ensuring sound operational practices, and assessing risk and compliance. He established the global internal business auditing department at the DORMA Group, a global 6,600-employee German manufacturing company, and served as the director of the company’s UK/Ireland outpost and the group’s global automatics division.
Most recently, at Germanischer Lloyd SE, a Hamburg-based ship classification society and technical advisor for the energy industry, Diehl set up the group internal business auditing service unit and led the integration and transformation as Senior Vice President of Group Quality, Governance, and Risk. Reporting directly to the CEO and to the audit committee, he also served as group risk officer and deputy compliance officer.
After attending secondary school in Germany and the United States, Diehl obtained a degree in 1999 in global business management from the International School of Management, studying in Germany, France, and Spain. He received his postgraduate degree in law (LL.M.), with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, from the Westfälische Wilhems-Universität Münster. Diehl holds credentials as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA); a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE); in Control Self-Assessment (CCSA), and Risk Management Assurance (CRMA), and he completed the Global Strategic Management course in Harvard University’s Executive Education program. In addition to his native German, he is fluent in English and Spanish.
