Law and economics expert Jason Scott Johnston joined the Virginia Law faculty in 2010 and serves as the Henry L. and Grace Doherty Charitable Foundation Professor of Law and the Nicholas E. Chimicles Research Professor in Business Law and Regulation. He is also the founding director of the Program on Law and the Environment at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, his position prior to leaving for Virginia.
Focusing primarily on environmental law and policy, Johnston has undertaken a number of theoretical as well as empirical projects. His studies have been published in American law journals such the Yale Law Journal, Virginia Law Review and Columbia Law Review. Johnston obtained both his JD and PhD in economics from the University of Michigan and held a senior fellowship in civil liability at Yale Law School and a professorship at Vanderbilt Law School before joining the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
