Damián Fernández is an associate professor of history at Northern Illinois University. He received his BA from the Universidad de Buenos Aires, MA from the University of British Columbia, and PhD from Princeton University. He has also taught at Cornell University and the University of Buenos Aires. Fernández is the author of Aristocrats and Statehood in Western Iberia, 300-600 CE (University of Pennsylvania, 2017), co-editor of Rome, Byzantium, and the Visigothic Kingdom of Toledo (Amsterdam University Press, forthcoming), and is currently working on two other co-edited volumes of Visigothic history. He is also part of a team working on a translation and commentary of the Liber ludiciorum, a legal code issued in the seventh century by Visigothic kings. His work has been supported by the American Council of Learned Societies, Institute for Research in the Humanities (University of Wisconsin-Madison), Cornell Society for the Humanities, and the Argentinian Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation.
