Berlin Prize Fellow - Class of Fall 2001


Christopher Middleton was born in Truro, Cornwall, England, and had lived in Austin, Texas, since 1966. He published various books of poems and short prose since 1962. Middleton was also known for his translations, notably from German, including works by Goethe, Hölderlin, Mörike, Nietzsche, Robert Walser, and many of his contemporaries. The Word Pavilion and Selected Poems was published in the US by The Sheep Meadow Press, and in the UK by Carcanet Press. A selection of verse translations appeared in 2000: Faint Harps and Silver Voices (Carcanet Press).

 

Middleton passed away, age 89, on November 29, 2015.
