Richard C. Holbrooke Forum Panel Discussion
Towards a New Balkans Diplomacy
The Balkans are again at risk. More than twenty years after the Dayton Accords, Europe’s most unstable region is still rife with ethnic conflict, territorial disputes, religious extremism, and political and economic stalemate. In recent months, violent conflict has become more likely, and new geopolitical players have become active in the region.
A discussion with Wolfgang Ischinger, Chairman, Munich Security Conference; Aleksandar Andrija Pejovic, Minister of European Affairs, Ministry of European Affairs of Montenegro, and Chief Negotiator for Montenegro’s Accession to the European Union; Genoveva Ruiz Calavera, Director for Western Balkans, Directorate General for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, European Commission; and Frank Wisner, Former Under Secretary of State for International Security Affairs, US Special Representative to the Kosovo Status Talks in 2005, and International Affairs Advisor, Squire Patton Boggs
