In her latest book, Putin’s World: Russia Against the West and with the Rest (released in German as Putins Russland, Rowohlt Verlag, 2019), Angela Stent investigates how and why the post-Cold War era has given way to a world in which Russia seems to pose a challenge to the US in every corner of the globe and has become a toxic and divisive subject in US politics. In this lecture, Stent – an expert on the triangular political and economic relationship among the US, Russia, and Europe – talks about Russia’s global engagement and why Russia persists in behaving in what the West regards as an exceedingly maddening, paranoid, and often aggressive manner. She will also talk about how the West should respond to Russia and Putin going forward.
