At the Academy, Zaritt is working on his third book project, “Yiddish Trash,” a study of popular Yiddish fiction (shund) of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The project, combining scholarship, translation, and the digital humanities, analyzes thousands of “pulp” texts, including steamy romances, murder mysteries, and suspenseful thrillers, published as books or pamphlets in the Yiddish press.
