Peter Christensen is Arthur Satz Professor of Humanities in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Rochester. At the Academy, Christensen is working on his fourth sole-authored book, tentatively titled “Living with Dignity,” which will be the first book to approach dignity—the state of being worthy of honor and respect—as a design problem. Drawing on insights from philosophy, law, economics, and sociology, Christensen’s project seeks to address the myriad ways in which our built environment does or does not work to confer human dignity and, in turn, either succeeds or fails at materializing a more just society in the face of global catastrophes like climate change.
