Daniel Jütte is working on a new book on the history of locomotion in Europe. In the first half of the sixteenth century, a new type of four-wheeled vehicle made its first appearance in Europe: the coach. In his Academy project, This Rumbling Age, Jütte traces the rise of vehicular traffic in Europe and how new modes of locomotion shook up society, culture, and economic life.
