The Spring 2025 Program

The spring 2025 program begins in early February and continues until the end of May with lectures, readings, workshops, concerts, and panel discussions by the Academy’s residential fellows and Distinguished Visitors. Topics range from the future of European security to new German literature in Berlin, from intellectual life in pre-modern India to the power of graphic-novel storytelling, among much more. Please be sure to register for events online, where most of our events will also be livestreamed. However you choose to attend Academy events this spring, we look forward to welcoming you!

New Academy President: Ambassador Daniel Benjamin

The American Academy in Berlin has appointed Ambassador Daniel Benjamin as its new president. Benjamin is currently director of the John Sloan Dickey Center for International Understanding at Dartmouth College.

Remembering Erivan Haub (1932-2018)

The American Academy in Berlin mourns the loss of businessman Erivan Haub. Our thoughts are with his extended family, particularly his wife, Helga Haub, a dedicated former Academy trustee and donor, and an abiding supporter of the transatlantic relationship.

Gayatri Spivak at the American Academy

Columbia University professor Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak was the 2017 Richard von Weizsäcker Distinguished Visitor at the Academy, where she delivered an October 17 talk on the great African American intellectual W.E.B. Du Bois.
