The 2024-25 Berlin Journal
The new Berlin Journal has arrived, featuring articles, essays, fiction, and artwork by the 2024-25 class of fellows, including a Focus section (“Transparency and Visibility”) on the metaphor of transparency and political visibility, with essays by Daniel Jütte, Peter Christensen, Jefferson Cowie, Nell Irvin Painter, and Zachary Shore. Feature essays include those by Adam Shatz on the spiritual jazz of Pharoah Sanders; David Grubbs on musical collaboration; Agnes Mueller on contemporary German literature; fiction by Mona Simpson, Amy Waldman on the disappearance of snow; and Michael Kimmage on Russia’s strategic nightmare in Ukraine, among much more, including an artist portfolio by graphic novelist Ken Krimstein, book reviews by Academy alumni, and news from the Hans Arnhold Center, including coverage of the 2023 Kissinger Prize and 2024 gala last April.
