Michael Pyle is former US deputy national security advisor for International Economics (2022-2024). In his White House role, he led the Biden administration’s international economic policy team and also served as the president’s sherpa to the G7 and G20. Prior to this role, Pyle served as chief economic advisor to the vice president during the administration’s first year.
As President Joe Biden’s deputy national security advisor for International Economics, Pyle led the National Security Council’s initiatives on international economics, trade, and investment, including on issues such as critical minerals and the growing role of technology in economic and national security policy. He also acted as a key negotiator with Europe and other allies on Russia sanctions, the clean energy transition, and China. In this and other public service roles, Pyle has been a pivotal architect of modern US industrial and innovation strategy as well as a leader in diplomatic initiatives through the G20 and other forums to create broad-based international support and partnerships.
Pyle is currently deputy head of the Portfolio Management Group at BlackRock, where he had previously worked for seven years in a range of multi-asset investing roles before joining the Biden-Harris administration.
