Berlin Prize Fellow - Class of Spring 2001


Ellen Hinsey is the author of the volume of poetry Cities of Memory, which was nominated in 1996 for the Yale Series Award. In 1998 she received a Rona Jaffe Foundation Writer’s Award and in 1999 a nomination for the Pushcart Prize. Her second book, The White Fire of Time (2002), written after a family tragedy, is an exploration of poetry, ethics and spirituality. Her third book, Update on the Descent, addresses this experience and was a finalist for the National Poetry Series. Her poems and essays have been appeared in a number of publications, including the New Yorker and the New York Times. She has been a guest author at the Sorbonne, the École Normale Supérieure, and the Prague International Writers Workshop.

 

Hinsey resides in Paris, where she teaches for Skidmore College’s Paris Program.
