David Ferris is an assistant professor of musicology at Rice University in Houston, Texas. His research interests include German music of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, text/music relationships, the history of music theory and criticism, and musical biography. He is the author of Schumann’s Eichendorff Liederkreis and the Genre of the Romantic Cycle (Oxford, 2000) and, among other articles, of “Public Performance and Private Understanding: Clara Wieck’s Concerts in Berlin,” which appeared in the Journal of the American Musicological Society.
