Adam Haslett is an American fiction writer. His first book, a collection of short stories entitled You Are Not a Stranger Here, is among the most acclaimed debuts of the decade. It was a finalist for the 2002 National Book Award and the 2003 Pulitzer Prize. In addition to spending time on the New York Times Bestseller list, it was also named one of the five best books of the year by Time magazine. Haslett was selected for the New York Magazine Writer of the Year award (2002), the L.L. Winship/PEN New England Award for the best book by a New England author (2003), and the PEN/Malamud Award for accomplishment in short fiction (2006). His debut novel, Union Atlantic, released in February 2010, was a national bestseller and was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Prize and received a Lambda Literary Award. His books have been translated into eighteen languages and his work has appeared in the Financial Times, New Yorker, Esquire, The Nation, The Atlantic, and Best American Short Stories. Haslett has been a visiting professor at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and Columbia University and has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the Fine Arts Work Center.
