Ruth Wedgwood is the Edward B. Burling Professor of International Law and Diplomacy and directs the Program in International Law and Organizations at the School for Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University, in Washington, DC. She has taught constitutional law, criminal law, the law of armed conflict, international law, arbitration, and United Nations politics and law. Wedgwood serves on the Pentagon’s Defense Policy Board, the Secretary of State’s Advisory Committee on International Law, and the Central Intelligence Agency’s Historical Review Panel. She also serves as the American member of the United Nations Human Rights Committee in Geneva. Wedgwood was appointed as an independent expert in The Hague for the United Nations War Crimes Tribunal in the prosecution of ethnic cleansing during the Bosnian war. She sits on the board of directors of Freedom House, the editorial boards of The American Interest and the National Interest, and the American Journal of International Law. She is a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, the Council of Foreign Relations, and the American Law Institute.
