Best-selling novelist Nicole Krauss is the author of two books and numerous shorter works. Her first novel, Man Walks into a Room (Nan A. Talese, 2002), was named Book of the Year by the Los Angeles Times. Her most recent novel, The History of Love (W.W. Norton, 2005), which traces feelings of loneliness and lost love from Nazi-occupied eastern Europe to present-day Brooklyn, was a critical success and was short-listed for the prestigious Orange Prize for Fiction. Krauss studied English literature at Stanford University, received a Marshall Scholarship to study at Oxford University, and earned a degree in art history at the Courtland Institute in London. She began publishing poetry at nineteen, appearing in the Paris Review, Ploughshares, and Doubletake and becoming a finalist for the Yale Younger Poets Prize. Krauss’s stories have been published in the New Yorker, Esquire, and Best American Short Stories.
