Harold O. Levy served as the chancellor of New York City’s public schools from 2000-2002. Subsequent, he was the executive vice president and general counsel of Kaplan, Inc. Much of Levy’s career has been devoted to education, particularly the New York City school system. In 1995, he served as the chairman of the commission on school maintenance and facilities reform. In 1997, the New York State Legislature elected him to serve the Board of Regents.
Levy began his career as a corporate attorney and served as Director of Global Compliance for Citigroup, Inc. He also worked for Sanford I. Weill, Salomon Inc., and Phillip Brothers, Inc. where he managed domestic and foreign litigation and various business projects. Additionally, Levy was an appellate attorney in the US Department of Justice Civil Rights Division.
Since 2009, Levy has been the managing director of Palm Ventures, a firm that deals with early stage venture capital investments. He is also a member of the Wilson Council of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and a member of Citizens Union Board of Governors and Treasurer of the Roosevelt Institute, the nonprofit partner of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum, in Hyde Park, New York. He is also an adjunct professor at Columbia University.
