You’re Doing it All Wrong! How Germans and Americans Misunderstand Each Other While Working to Deal with Climate Change

Since the inauguration of President Biden, the United States and Germany have established similar goals to decarbonize their economies by the middle of the century. But politics and public attitudes toward various technologies mean that the two countries are currently following different pathways. In this talk, Samantha Gross discusses how German and EU policies are pushing harder for faster decarbonization and putting a price on emissions, while the United States is talking a more flexible approach, open to more technologies. The key going forward will be to understand these countries’ differences and not let them get in the way of cooperation on shared goals.
