What Comes Next? Imagining a New Economic and Security Commons
Condoleezza Rice and Philip Zelikow’s careers in foreign policy span from the global commonwealth of the post-Cold War through 9/11 and the War on Terror to the current, fraught situation in international affairs. In this talk, they offer their assessments of the breakdown of the global commonwealth and why it is likely to remain broken in the near future. They contend that the problem of world order begins with the way in which countries such as the United States or Germany envision their futures—and how they regain confidence in sovereign goals. Rice and Zelikow also offer practical ideas for cohering an economic and security commons that addresses problems no single nation can tackle alone.
