John W. Kluge Lecture
The Art (and Agony) of the Interview
Drawing on decades of experience reporting from around the world and leading some of the most memorable conversations on air, Garcia-Navarro reflects on what makes an interview truly meaningful—and why it’s often as challenging as it is rewarding. With candor and wit, she explores the delicate balance between curiosity and preparation, empathy and persistence, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the craft of asking questions that matter.
Garcia-Narvarro will be in conversation with Michael Ebert, editor in chief of Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazine, on topics such as responsibilities vs. power dynamics, what shapes the craft of interviewing, cross-cultural media comparisons, and the current state of the United States, among others. Ebert frequently conducts interviews for SZ-Magazin or Süddeutsche Zeitung, including of Woody Allen, Donatella Versace, Prada-CEO Patrizio Bertelli, Penelope Cruz, and Bruce Springsteen.
