Steven Rattner is an American financier, author, and policy advisor. As counselor to the secretary of the treasury, he led the Obama administration’s efforts to restructure the auto industry. Prior, Rattner founded The Quadrangle Group, LLC and was its managing principal.

 

At Lazard Freres & Co., Rattner was deputy chairman/deputy chief executive officer, after tenures at Morgan Stanley and Lehman Brothers. He also was a journalist contributing to the New York Times for nearly nine years, principally as an economic correspondent. He continues to write for the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and Financial Times, and is the author of Overhaul: An Insider’s Account of the Obama Administration’s Emergency Rescue of the Auto Industry (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2010).
