Philip Morris Fellow - Class of Fall 2000 and Class of Spring 2001

Stephanie Snider received her MFA in Sculpture from the Yale University School of Art in 1998, her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1992, and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 1994. She has taught at Yale University School of Art and at Ohio University.

 

Her work has been included in exhibitions at the Hudson River Museum in New York, A.R.T., Inc. in New York City, and the Bronx Museum, and has been reviewed in both the New York Times and Art in America. She was the recipient of a 2009 Guggenheim Fellowship.

Project Description

A Still and Silent Fiction: A Psychological Narrative of Berlin

Snider earned the American Academy Philip Morris Emerging Artist Prize for the 2000/2001 academic year. Her project investigated the “desire embedded in architecture…creating sites that map anxiety, confusion, obsessive sorts of love, puzzles, and the psychological tricks our minds play on us.” During her time in Berlin, she worked on a project entitled “A Still and Silent Fiction: A Psychological Narrative of Berlin,” creating a body of work dealing with personal memory and history as well as social and cultural space.
