Paul Berman is a writer on politics and literature. He is the author or editor of nine books, including The Fight of the Intellectuals (Melville House, 2010); Power and the Idealists: The Passion of Joschka Fischer and its Aftermath, with preface by Richard Holbrooke (Norton paperback, 2007); Carl Sandburg: Selected Poems (American Poets Project of the Library of America, 2006); Terror and Liberalism (Norton, 2003); A Tale of Two Utopias: The Political Journey of the Generation of 1996 (Norton, 1996); Make-Believe Empire: A How-To Book, for children, with illustrations by the author (Atheneum, 1982), and other works. He is a contributing editor of the New Republic and a member of the board of editors of Dissent. He contributes regularly to the New York Times Book Review and other journals.
