Hugh David Scott Greenway is a journalist. He was educated at Milton Academy, Yale University, Oxford University, and Harvard University, where he was a Nieman Fellow. Greenway served in the US Navy from 1958 to 1960. From 1962 to 1972, he worked for Time Life in London, Washington, Boston, Saigon, Bangkok, the United Nations, and Hong Kong. After Time Life, from 1972 to 1978 he worked for the Washington Post in Washington, Saigon, Hong Kong, and Jerusalem. From 1978 to 2000, he served as the foreign editor, national editor, associate editor, and editorial page editor at the Boston Globe. Besides the Washington Post, Time, and the Boston Globe, he has published articles in Life Magazine, Newsweek, New York Times, New Yorker, New York Review of Books, World Policy Journal, Atlantic Monthly, Columbia Journalism Review, and La Reppublica. Since 2000 he has been a freelance columnist in Foreign Affairs.
