Biography
Kerry Tribe's work in a variety of media explores relationships between subjectivity and representation, often by investigating the gray areas between the authentic and the scripted or the collective and the idiosyncratic. It regularly invites the unpredictability of collaboration to produce ludic philosophical inquiries through structurally rigorous forms. Born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1973, Tribe attended the Whitney Museum Independent Studio Program in 1998 and received her M.F.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2002. She has exhibited her work internationally, participating in exhibitions and festivals in Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, New York City, Toronto, Vancouver, Rotterdam, Sydney and Istanbul. Her work was recently included in the 2004 California Biennial at the Orange County Museum of Art in Newport Beach, California, and in the exhibition Adaptive Behavior at the New Museum in New York City. She is a visiting faculty member at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Ms. Tribe has been in residence at the Academy since September 2005. Photo: © 2006 Mike Minehan
