Biography

David Calleo has taught at some of the world's most prestigious universities: Brown, Yale, Puget Sound and Columbia, the College of Europe, the Universities of Bonn and Munich, the Institut d'Etudes Politiques in Paris and the Institut Universitaire de Hautes Etudes Internationales in Geneva. He is an active member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the International Institute for Strategic Studies. Calleo is a former Rockefeller, Guggenheim, and Fulbright fellow as well as a former associate at the Centre d'Etudes et de Recherches Internationales. He has served twice as project director for the Twentieth Century Fund and was awarded a research fellowship at Nuffield College in Oxford. He served as a consultant to the United States Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs. He is fluent in French and Italian and attained a Ph.D. in political science from Yale University. Publications: America and the World Political Economy (1973), The German Problem Reconsidered (1978), The Imperious Economy (1982), Beyond American Hegemony: The Future of the Western Alliance (1987), The Bankrupting of America: How the Federal Deficit Is Impoverishing the Nation (1992), and Rethinking Europe's Future (2001).
