The Hans Arnhold Center Library

The American Academy in Berlin has an in-house reference library with almost 9000 holdings. The heart is our special collection of books and media items by former Fellows and Distinguished visitors, currently counting about 2400 items. The profile of the general collection is focused on the interests of American academic readers. We not only collect English translations of key texts, standard literature, and classics but also English texts on Berlin, German, and European history and politics. Most of our holdings are incorporated in our online library catalog. To see the current library catalog, please click here.

And in order to support the research of its Fellows and Distinguished visitors this bibliography provides links to major research databases, encyclopedia, digital libraries and archives with open access for document retrieval. The focus is on digital collections primarily in the fields of Arts and Humanities that are available in Germany and in Europe. To give you access to information and material relevant for historical research, we have included some bibliographic databases and databases providing bibliographic information as well as tools to search the rich collections of Berlin museums.
