Since the Academy’s fellowship program began, over 300 fellows have come to the Hans Arnhold Center, hailing from the humanities, arts and letters, political science, public policy, journalism, law, and the social sciences. They include winners of MacArthur, Guggenheim, and Pulitzer prizes, among other accolades.
In order to keep up with our alumni, many of who completed significant works during their time here, the American Academy in Berlin began an alumni association in 2006, spearheaded by former fellows interested in maintaining a connection with the Academy and each other, and in nurturing the American-German relationships created during their time at the Hans Arnhold Center. The alumni association is supported by the Academy’s leadership and board of trustees, who help to sponsor alumni events both in Germany and the US and who encourage communications about Academy alumni. The Academy’s vice chair, Gahl Hodges Burt, chair of the alumni committee, has been an especially generous and steadfast supporter of Academy alumni.
The Alumni Directory on this website lends a complete overview of all past fellows, searchable by semester, field, or by the name of their fellowship. To search for all past distinguished visitors, please use the DV Directory.
