The American Academy in Berlin Alumni Association was founded in 2006-2007 by former fellows interested in maintaining a connection with the Academy and each other, and in nurturing the American-German relationships created during their stay at the Hans Arnhold Center.
Academy alumni comprise a great intellectual, creative, and geographic diversity. Over 300 individuals in the arts, humanities, literature, economics, politics, history, journalism, and law have come to the the American Academy as Fellows or Distinguished Visitors since 1998, when the fellowship program began.
From the very beginning, the Academy's leadership and Board of Trustees have been strong supporters of the Alumni Association, providing staff and administrative resources, as well as helping to sponsor alumni events and communications dedicated specifically to our alumni.
Our special thanks to Academy Vice Chair and Alumni Committee Chair, Gahl Hodges Burt, for her generous support and dedication in ensuring the alumni remain an important part of the American Academy in Berlin family.
