Head-to-Head: A Meeting of Inspired Minds

Home Is Where the Music Is: A Conversation on Borders, Forced Migration, and the Cultures of Germany

In their conversation, Syrian musician, educator, and poet Bashir Alshihabi and scholar and curator Josh Kun—the spring 2018 Bosch Fellow in Public Policy at the American Academy in Berlin—bring together Damascus and Los Angeles, and Stuttgart and Berlin, to examine music’s role in understanding contemporary migration, displacement, and belonging. Does music determine where home is? What role has music played in cultural change in Germany in the twenty-first century? How does immigration change a city’s soundscape?

In cooperation with the Evangelisches Bildungszentrum Hospitalhof Stuttgart and the Deutsch-Amerikanisches Zentrum Stuttgart. Generously supported by Dr. Dirk Ippen, Robert Bosch Stiftung GmbH, Holtzbrinck Publishing Group, and Berthold Leibinger Stiftung GmbH
